Sartre and de Beauvoir do long distance
Sartre: This is awesome. You can more freely choose to reply to my messages, take my calls or write to me. Each day that we stay in this relationship is a free choice by you to stay in love me. That’s what love is, being loved by a person who chooses freely. I want you to keep choosing me freely. Furthermore, a common trap in love is the desire to control the other person to always get their love, but this is bad because then you don’t get love from a free person. In long distance, I am powerless to control you anyway, so I won’t do that.
de Beauvoir: This is awesome. Love for women has been about losing herself in the man and living for him. True love is between two people with freedom. Instead of encouraging devotion, long distance is going to give us the space to have our own projects and be our own independent people.
